Billy Smoke is an upcoming graphic novel that hasn't even hit shelves yet, but is already set for a Hollywood adaptation and has Lost's Matthew Fox attached to star. Today, however, it moved a little closer to release as Jeffrey Nachmanoff, screenwriter-turned-director-too, signed on to bring the film to the screen.
The plot sees the eponymous Billy, an assassin, have a near-death experience and emerge determined to find redemption for his past misdeeds by riding the world of all assassins. Logically, at the finale he'll have to top himself as well, and then the world will be full of fluffy kittens and we'll all be free to frolick in flower-filled meadows (Editor's note: wild speculation, please do not accuse us of spoiling anything). The book was written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Eric Kim.
It's not clear yet whether Nachmanoff will also write the screenplay, but it's a fair guess given that he made his name writing films like The Day After Tomorrow and working on the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time script, and that he wrote his other feature as director, Traitor, last year.
