Kill List is without a doubt one of the year's most exciting, most daring, most shocking films. So it's with great pleasure we bring you the news that director Ben Wheatley is now starting work on a "pitch-black comedy" by the name of** Sightseers**.
The plot sees a couple embark on a lark around the British Isles, seeing the likes of the Crich Tramway Museum, the Ribblehead Viaduct and the Keswick Pencil Museum, before fate, mothers and sheer back luck intervene and things take an altogether darker turn.
Chris, the male lead, will be played by Steve Oram and his belle is called Tina, who'll be brought to life by Alice Lowe. They're also the screenwriters for the film, so we're guessing there'll be more than a little improv going on as shooting starts this week.
You might know Steve Oram from his turns as Donni in The Mighty Boosh and various assorted characters in Tittybangbang, and Alice Lowe might come to mind when we mention Skinners' secretary in Hot Fuzz, although the select few who watched it will know her better as Madeleine Wool / Dr Liz Asher in Garth Marenghi's Dark Place.
It turns out the pair of them have previously worked together on Steve Coogan's live tour, and their characters in Sightseers are based on comedic creations previously seen on tour. So now you know!
In many ways, it's great to see Ben Wheatley sticking to smaller, indier films instead of heading off to Hollywood on the back of the critical success of** Kill List**, so hopefully he'll be as brilliant as he was with dark comedy as he was with the war/horror/gangster genre.
Plus, it's being produced by Big Talk, the guys behind Shaun Of The Dead, **Hot Fuzz, ****Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, Paul, **and Attack The Block, with Edgar Wright exec producing. So that's a very good sign.
Sightseers does not yet have a release date.
