We're a long way off a trailer, but with shooting underway, those kind folks working on the 24th Bond movie Spectre have released a little making-of promo to give us a glimpse of what they're up to. Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista, associate producer Greg Wilson, production designer Dennis Gassner and production manager Martin Joy are our guides. Like much of the rest of the UK and US, they're currently somewhat preoccupied with snow...
We're in Austria rather than Switzerland, but those snowy mountains and that unusual location immediately put us in mind of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. That movie also had a cable car sequence (as did Moonraker), so it's perhaps fair to suggest that the Bond films haven't quite done with all the homaging of previous glories that went on in Skyfall.
This may be a ruse though, since, though we're told this is a key action sequence in the film, we're not told at which point it takes place. We could be looking at Blofeld's mountain-top base, but we could also be looking at a pre-credits sequence only peripherally connnected to the rest of the movie. Place your bets on which it is in the comments below.
Spectre, as you likely know already stars Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Andrew Scott and Monica Belluci, along with Bautista and Seydoux, and returning Mr. White, Jesper Christensen. The script is by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade; Interstellar's Hoyte van Hoytema is the DP; and Sam Mendes is directing.
Shooting started in December and will also take in the rather warmer climes of Mexico City, Rome, and Tangier and Erfoud in Morocco. The film arrives on October 23 next year.
