No, the weird and wonderful Michel Gondry hasn't sold his aunty on the black market for cash to make papier mache models: he has just found a distributor for his new documentary in the shape of the Beastie Boys' film brand Oscilloscope Laboratories, headed up by band member Adam Yauch (a.k.a. MCA).

The rapper - part of the trio known for their shouty anthems, hip-hop clothes and faces like sensible accountants - acquired the Cannes selected film L'Epine dans le Coeur or The Thorn In The Heart, which follows the relationship between matriarch Suzette and her son Jean-Yves with a personal snapshot of life in rural France as a member of the Gondry clan.

Gondry was especially excited about the prospect of the Beastie involvement, saying:"So I called up my best friend Etienne and told him, 'Guess who's distributing my documentary about my aunt?' and he said, 'who?' and I said, 'MCA from Beastie Boys' and Etienne said, 'The Beastie Boy bought your Aunt's documentary?! Get the f*** out of here!' and I said, 'Yeah!!!'”

Oscilloscope will take the no doubt natty look at family into American cinemas and on to a DVD release. Other Oscilloscope releases include last year's **Wendy and Lucy **starring Michelle Williams.
