Acting quickly to counter what has been seen as a negative reaction – albeit to a dreadful quality, pirated phone version – to his new promo, Zack Snyder tweeted out an official version of the first Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice trailer, which has also hit the Tubes of You.
Cheekily referencing its unofficial online debut with hash tags that included #NotBlurry and #NotPirated, the proper version arrives in crystal clear digital vision.
But the tone and the style of the trailer remains dark and foreboding, with an initial voiceover of various people concerned about the effect that Superman has had (Metropolis: Never Forget!) and might have on planet Earth and its inhabitants. There is a somewhat natural worry that this powerful alien could be a massive threat to the world.
And it’s a concern that Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne definitely appears to share initially, lest the movie be called** Batman Meets Superman Over A Steaming Mug Of Tea And Has A Friendly Chinwag**. We hear Jeremy Irons’ Alfred talking about the feelings of rage and powerlessness that can turn good men cruel. Finally, a tiny peek at the conflict that fuels this film, as Bruce breaks out his wonderful Bat-toys (the new Batmobile, going up against some sort of craft) and confronts Henry Cavill’s Kal-El. “Do you bleed?” asks Batman, the eyes of his armour glowing white in a shot familiar to anyone who saw the footage from last year’s Comic-Con. “You will...”
It remains to be seen if the whole movie commits to the bleak feeling of this teaser, but at least we now know a version of Affleck’s Bat-voice. Now that you’ve had a chance to see it officially, what say you? Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is out on March 25 next year.
