We’ll resist the burning, Gollum-alike temptation to say that this is a banner day for** The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug** (sorry) and simply report that, yes, three new banner images have arrived to promote the second of Peter Jackson’s trilogy in advance of a trailer set to arrive shortly.
In addition to the contractual look at Bilbo (Martin Freeman), Thorin (Richard Armitage) and the dwarves on their continuing mission with Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to take back the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the sly and dangerous dragon Smaug, we’re treated to a glimpse of fan-favourites Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) and Lee Pace as the Elvenking Thranduil.
While the Dwarf party and Bard are caught in the midst of action, Thranduil mostly seems happy to sit on his throne and look pretty. Perhaps he's settling down to watch some telly? Or simply wants to look imperious. You know Elves, always posing.
With Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Sylvester McCoy, Cate Blanchett, Manu Bennett, Hugo Weaving, Aidan Turner, Billy Connolly, Graham McTavish, Dean O’Gorman, James Nesbitt, Mikael Persbrandt, Conan Stevens and Benedict “bet you thought we weren’t getting to him” Cumberbatch also in the cast, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug is out on December 13.
