For his directorial debut, Arrested Development stalwart and Horrible Bosses veteran Jason Bateman decided to stick with the comedy milieu, and tracked down a script from Andrew Dodge that ended up on the 2011 Black List. The result is Bad Words, which has just posted its first, red band, swear-tastic trailer online.
Bad Words focuses on Bateman’s bitter, cynical Guy Trilby, a man who likes nothing better in life than snarkily causing trouble for others. He sees a chance for some fun (and possible catharsis) when he discovers a loophole that lets him enter the National Spelling Bee as an adult, and starts making life hell for the kids who compete against him.
Yet along the way – and as he’s being investigated by a reporter (Kathryn Hahn) interested in his story – Guy strikes up an unlikely friendship with fellow competitor Chaitainya (Rohan Chand) and decides to broaden the kid’s limited horizons. Which, as the trailer shows, include the world of nipples…
This one will likely sink or swim depending on how much you enjoy Bateman being letting fly with the insults. Bad Words will hit the US in March 2014, but doesn’t have a date for the UK yet.
