It’s all been a bit quiet on the Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 front recently, with some movie websites even speculating that the project’s having a troubled edit. Newly arrived to hush the whispers is a slick trailer (watch it here) that proves two things — one, Jerry Bruckheimer knows how to cut an exciting two minutes of preview footage; two, this film is going to be HUGE.
Cue a colossal, apocalyptic whirpool with two ships battling as they swirl around its rim; a galleon sliding down a desert dune; a fantastic CG shot of the ‘World’s End’ itself — a waterfall that makes Niagara Falls look like a babbling brook. Then there’s peeks at favourite characters in action, with Johnny and the pirate monkey making a nice double-act, Keira looking tanned and sexy in that new Oriental outfit, and Pirates 2 baddie Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) seemingly throwing in his tentacled lot with the nefarious Admiral Norrington (Jack Davenport).
Despite the dull disappointment of Pirates 2, this trailer seems to indicate that the Pirates team has thrown everything in the pot this time. Let’s hope for a trilogy closer of Return Of The King magnitude.
