Some films gather pretty decent casts. Then there are projects such as August: Osage County, which gathers an outstanding ensemble anchored by Oscar’s favourite lady, Meryl Streep.
The film boasts a Pulitzer prize-winning play as its source material, adapted by original playwright Tracy Letts. It also has Argo team George Clooney and Grant Heslov among its producers and John Wells calling the shots, which doesn't hurt. And to cap it all, Osage County features the sort of chewy family drama that award-givers often love.
And that cast! Streep is surrounded by a roll call of great talent, including Ewan McGregor, Abigail Breslin, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Sam Shepard, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney and someone called Cumberbatch. Yes, we’re pretty sure his following will be delighted to see him pop up in this one, even if he doesn’t get much to do in this trailer.
August: Osage County finds the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have taken them far apart from one other, reunited at the Midwest house they grew up in, where they must confront their histories and deal with the dysfunctional matriarch (Streep) who raised them.
This one arrives on our shores on December 13. Oscar contender? We’d be shocked if it wasn’t, but anything can happen.
