In order of things that take a really really long time, getting a remake of The Women off the ground is nestled just between sending man to the moon and Return of the King wrapping up its ending.
Efforts were made over a decade ago to rework the 1939 movie about a group of ladies who all take a turn for the bitchy when they discover that their most envied member is being cheated on by her husband. But, at last, the movie has secured that elusive cast of 'name' actresses that it needs (the original boasted Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Norma Shearer and Joan Fontaine).
Those names include Meg Ryan, Eva Mendes, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing and Candice Bergen. Despite the high profile names involved, writer/director Diane English is making the movie for less than $20million. So well done her.
