After the sad passing of Anthony Minghella yesterday, it has now been reported that legendary science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke has also sadly died. Clark, who had been suffering from post-polio problems for years was pronounced dead at 1.30am at his house in Sri Lanka after suffering from breathing difficulties. He was 90 years old.

Clarke will forever be remembered by cinema fans as the man who helped create 2001: A Space Odyssey. Working very closely with Stanley Kubrick, Clarke wrote the sci-fi classic as both a screenplay and novel at the same time. Director David Fincher still has plans to adapt another Clarke novel, Rendezvous with Rama, into a movie.

Clarke had recently completed a book called The Last Theorem, which will be released later this year.
