Actress Anna Massey, a veteran of stage and screen who worked with everyone from Hitchcock to Michael Powell, has died aged 73 following a battle with cancer.
Massey was born into a theatrical family in 1937, and got her start playing victims in thrillers like Michael Powell's Peeping Tom and Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy. In later years, she's been busiest in costume dramas - such as Miss Prism in 2002's The Importance Of Being Earnest, or 2008's Tess of the D'Urbervilles - but also threw in rather less obvious roles, such as that of Christian Bale's landlady in The Machinist.
She won a BAFTA for her role in TV's Hotel du Lac in 1986, and was a familiar voice on Radio 4 and in audiobooks. Said her agent in a statement, "She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a cherished grandmother, a generous colleague and, always, a consummate professional. She will be greatly missed."
