Yesterday, the Tetris movie was officially announced. Doubling down on the preposterocity inherent in turning a game about blocks falling onto other blocks into a feature-length motion picture, here's more game-to-film adaptation news: the **Angry Birds **movie has a voice cast. And is still a thing that is happening.
Arriving via carrier pigeon email, the press release announcing the names involved (and the characters they're playing) is a thing of joy, so here are a few excerpts to tantalise and enthrall. Warning: this will weird you out a bit.
*"Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses, We're The Millers) will lead the cast as Red, a bird with a temper problem. Josh Gad, in his first animated role since Frozen, plays speedy Chuck, and Danny McBride (This Is The End, Eastbound & Down) portrays the volatile Bomb."
"Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs) has joined the pork side, Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, The Maya Rudolph Show) will play Matilda, and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days Of Future Past) will play the legendary Mighty Eagle."
Earmarked for a July 1 2016 release in the US, **Angry Birds **is directed by animation veterans (but directorial newcomers) Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis, with a script written by The Simpsons' Jon Vitti. It's a safe bet there'll be a tie-in game too, so look out for that too, as well as any passing highly-explosive fowl.
