So it turns out that you can still make Cold War films even though it's been over for 20 years, and frankly we're glad about that if they're all as entertaining as Salt, the new thriller from director Philip Noyce and Angelina Jolie.

It's a twisty-turny tale about which we won't say too much at all, but it's another wicked performance from Jolie who spent over a hour outside the cinema signing autographs last night and making nice with the fans, in a stunning silver dress that would look like a curtain on anyone else.

Apart from her, the gala premiere was rather celeb-light: X-Factor winner Joe McElderry and someone called Kerry Katona were the biggest names* - but when you have the world's most glamorous woman and UN Goodwill Ambassador there, who cares?

Salt is out this Friday, and also stars Liev Schreiber, August Diehl, Chiwetel Ejiofor. It was written by Kurt Wimmer, who thereby earns himself forgiveness for Ultraviolet.

*Although actually Empire did stand in line for the loo behind that news reader, Fiona Bruce maybe? And the swimmer lady from the Olympics was there, who a quick google reveals is called Rebecca Adlington.
