Heck of a weekend for director Andy Fickman. First, his new movie, Race To Witch Mountain, opened at the top of the US box office with an impressive $24.8 million haul. And second, he lined up his next movie by signing on to direct Monster Attack Network, again for Disney.

The film, written by Scott Elder and Josh Harmon from a graphic novel which was published in 2007, will be an effects-heavy action comedy about a secret government organisation that protects America’s coasts from giant, marauding monsters. You know, like that Godzilla fella.

That’s slightly different from the premise of the graphic novel, which took place on a Pacific island besieged by monsters. Then again, Pacific islands don’t have easily recognisable landmarks just waiting to be destroyed in a spectacular CG-fest.

Jason Netter will produce the movie for Disney through his company, Kickstart. And for Fickman, it should represent another chance to kick on from Race To Witch Mountain, after a series of low-to-mid-budget comedies like **She’s The Man **and The Game Plan, and play in a truly big-budget arena.
