Where the trailers for summer blockbusters are measured by how many effects shots they can squeeze in and how much of the giant robot/dinosaur/super villain they can show us without giving away the farm too early, their winter counterparts are measured on how many times they can say "Academy Award winner..." and how many plotlines they can weave together without becoming confusing. The new trailer for American Gangster, online here, knocks it out of the muddafrickin' park.
Starring Academy Award Winners Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington and directed by Academy Award nominee Ridley Scott (could all change with this one, Ridley) American Gangster tells the true tale of a mighty '70s druglord (Washington) and the cop who wants to bring him down (Crowe). Everything that's cool about the previous, slightly overlong sentence, is all up on screen in this trailer. Just check out that shot of Denzel walking toward camera in silhouette and then being lit up by the gunshot. We're gonna go out on a limb and say this is looking like winter's best film.
