You may recall that in mid-December the first full trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swung online. Hidden within was a URL for a website (then called "electroarrives", now mysteriously renamed "enemiesunite") on the single page of which was a countdown to New Year's Eve. What would happen then? Now we know: it's a new teaser trailer for the film, introduced by Stan "The Man" Lee himself, true believers!
Unsurprisingly given the location where it was revealed, the new clip expands on the glimpses we'd already seen of some Spidey-vs-Electro action in New York's Times Square. There is quipping and there is thwipping.
The film sees Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) more comfortable in his Spider-skin these days and enjoying his abilities, along with girlfriend Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone). But his good mood is about to be tested when new villains appear in the shape of Jamie Foxx's Electro and Paul Giamatti's Rhino, and rich kid Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) tells Peter that he's been under surveillance by Oscorp. Yikes.
Talking to Collider recently, Felicity Jones also fuelled the rumours that her character will be Felicia Hardy. While she was carefully unspecific, her mention of being hands-on with her wardrobe design kicked up the fevered fanboy speculation that she was talking about a Black Cat costume. But we'll see...
Marc Webb is back as director, and promised at Comic-Con that this one will be "operatic" in scale and ambition. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits cinemas on April 18, 2014, with two more instalments planned for May 2016 and May 2018. That enemiesunite website is now counting down to something else in another month's time...
