Katherine Heigl – the gorgeous doe-eyed blonde doctor from Grey’s Anatomy – is clearly making plans for the day when the show runs its course. And those plans involve becoming a bona fide movie star.
We’ll next see Heigl – a fine and likeable light comedienne – in Judd Apatow’s eagerly-awaited comedy, Knocked Up, later in the year. But today she also signed up for the lead role in another romantic comedy, 27 Dresses.
Heigl will play a single woman for whom the phrase ‘always the bridesmaid, never the bride’ isn’t a cliché – she’s carried out those duties 27 times (hence the title). When her sister asks her to be bridesmaid for the 28th time, Heigl has a dilemma – namely, that she’s in love with the groom…
All sounds interesting, although you might wonder where the laughs might come from with that premise. However, it didn’t hurt My Best Friend’s Wedding any, so fingers crossed for this.
Anne Fletcher, director of Step Up, will call the shots on the movie when filming begins in May, during Heigl’s hiatus from Grey’s Anatomy. And to further up those rom-com credentials, the project is written by The Devil Wears Prada screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna.
