Get those facial muscles exercised, because we’re going to want you to show us your best “surprised” expression. Ready? Okay! There’s going to be a Jurassic World sequ... Oh, that was rubbish. You didn’t look surprised at all. But it’s true: Universal has announced that more dino chaos will be unleashed upon the world on June 22, 2018.
Admittedly, we were all just waiting for this news to break given Jurassic World’s box office record-snatching run, which has seen it gross more than $1.5 billion worldwide and take its place above Marvel’s Avengers on the all-time list. The film doesn’t yet have a title – it could, after all, just go with Jurassic World 2 – but we do know that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will, as per the terms of their contracts, be back as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing.
Quite how they’ll fit into the plot has yet to be revealed, but figuring out the next reason for dinosaurs to rampage again will be the job of Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow and co-writer Derek Connolly, who revamped the script for this year’s movie. Trevorrow has already said he won’t direct the next entry in the franchise, so Universal will either keep driving dump trucks full of money to his house or, if he really is made of stone, will already have started looking for a new director.
Seeds for potential sequels were planted in World, particularly with (spoiler alert for the three people and a duck who have yet to see it) BD Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu making good his escape with some genetic specimens as the theme park descended into anarchy around him. So mark your diaries accordingly and start speculating on what will happen in the new movie...
