This adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comics scored monster ratings. It’s easy to see why. The pilot paints a bleak picture of a world overrun by the undead, while Andrew Lincoln’s sheriff searches for his missing wife. Later episodes don’t quite reach the same giddy heights, but this is a promising introduction. Six episodes barely scratch the surface of the saga, though, and the slow pace frustrates as much as it fascinates.
