Too many ‘cult’ kids’ series wither under the harsh glare of nostalgia-free viewing, but The Trap Door stands firm. This claymation treat gleefully presents the travails of blue servant-blob Berk, forever trapped between the twin horrors of his boss, The Thing Upstairs, and a hellish — yet often likeable — menagerie lurking beneath the titular portal. Humourist Willie Rushton voiced it all, adding his own wry material, while “Thing-doer” Steve Box (now at Aardman) shaped the show’s almost Lovecraftian oddities with a sharp eye for character.
