Lonesome Dove

Originally developed as a film, Larry McMurtry’s tale of two grizzled former Texas rangers driving cattle from Texas to Montana won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction before becoming this multiple Emmy-winning miniseries. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones lead the amazing cast (Danny Glover, Chris Cooper, Anjelica Huston, Steve Buscemi etc.), and although it’s a romanticised view of the West - especially post-Deadwood - it’s an enjoyable six-hour yarn, presented in digitally remastered widescreen for the first time. And it’s still spawning spin-offs - the latest being this year’s TV prequel, Comanche Moon, starring Val Kilmer, Karl Urban and Steve Zahn.
