Originally developed as a film, Larry McMurtrys tale of two grizzled former Texas rangers driving cattle from Texas to Montana won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction before becoming this multiple Emmy-winning miniseries. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones lead the amazing cast (Danny Glover, Chris Cooper, Anjelica Huston, Steve Buscemi etc.), and although its a romanticised view of the West - especially post-Deadwood - its an enjoyable six-hour yarn, presented in digitally remastered widescreen for the first time. And its still spawning spin-offs - the latest being this years TV prequel, Comanche Moon, starring Val Kilmer, Karl Urban and Steve Zahn.
