Stephen King’s take on Lars Von Trier’s ghostly Holby City was cult from the get-go and is destined to remain that way after poor viewing figures on both the BBC and ABC nixed the chance of a second season.

Indeed, the funereal pace and laboured exposition guaranteed that only the very dedicated made it to the end of this 13-episode run on telly — which is a shame as this slow-burning drama is equal parts quirky and spooky and delivers a satisfying pay-off.
