Technically, this is the third season (the first had only a short run, and is compressed with the second into the preceding box set) and where,
sadly, interference from producing network NBC began to dilute and derail a strong formula. Less photogenic characters were written out and the sex/violence quotas increased in a bid to attract larger audiences.
At least here the original running order is restored, and even if the plot becomes slightly more salacious, the performances remain strong, especially from the awesome Yaphet Kotto, who delivers nearly every line with the gravitas of a Shakespearean pro: keep ears peeled for his bemoaning of fibre and cholesterol.
