Richard Curtis, Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench team up to adapt Roald Dahl's tale of geriatric love and shelled reptiles. It’s light and extremely sugary, even by Curtis’ standards: your enjoyment may depend on whether you can get behind a hero named Mr. Hoppy. But extraneous James Corden narration aside, it’s skilfully done and ultimately beguiling.
