Cracker: The Complete Collection Review

CSI may have cemented this as TV’s decade of forensic science, but the ’90s were the epoch of the criminal psychologist, and they never got any better than Fitz. The show’s enduring success comes down to two elements — gifted writer Jimmy McGovern, and perfect casting in Robbie Coltrane.

A new episode included here marks McGovern’s welcome return, after even up-and-comer Paul ‘State Of Play’ Abbott couldn’t maintain the remarkable level of quality for the third series. The creator has been waiting for something to really piss him off (terrorism, but not how you think), and it’s been worth holding out for.
