21 Jump Street Season 1 Review

One of Fox’s first TV dramas, this tackled what were, for that time, controversial subjects — teenage pregnancy, AIDS, suicide and child abuse. Twenty years on, such daring remains admirable, yet the corny scripts, frightwigs and Bontempi keyboard soundtrack are incredibly dated.

The series is notable, though, as Johnny Depp’s springboard to fame — playing a baby-faced undercover cop (spookily he’s still barely aged a day). By 1990 he’d moved to bigger, brighter things.
