Nip/Tuck: Season 2

Where the first series of the plastic surgery hit strove for some degree of realism in its storylines, the second season sheers almost all pretence of serious drama, getting to the mucky, silly stuff underneath. And it’s all the better for it.

The continued adventures of Christian (Julian McMahon) and Sean (Dylan Walsh) take in threesomes, conjoined twins, a self-help Medusa (a delightfully spikey Famke Janssen) and Joan Rivers in its fevered trip into overly medicated soap opera. Yet in the midst of madness, the now established cast peel back the masks of these grotesques for some of the show’s most affecting drama so far.
