Grab your swords, prepare your tiny potions, and make way for monsters: the next season of The Witcher is officially a go. Netflix’s hit fantasy series, based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, is returning for a third season, which has now begun shooting. How do we know? Because Netflix has shared a nice little teaser image of Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan back on the Continent, sat in an epic snowy landscape in their Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri costumes respectively.

By the looks of things, the trio will be properly united for this third run (they were finally all in the same place at the tail end of Season 2), after two seasons of setting up their individual stories. That’s also supported by the newly-revealed Season 3 plot synopsis, which promises more monster fights and machinations in the next set of episodes. Here’s the full summary: “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Gerald takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

There’s plenty to look forward to this season, then – not just our three protagonists finally sharing major screen time, but a clear focus in the fact that everyone in the Continent is coming after Ciri, and the prospect of Yennefer dragging them all to Aretuza. Netflix has confirmed the episodes will be directed by Stephen Surjik, Gandja Monteiro, Loni Peristere, and Bola Ogun.

If it’ll be a while before The Witcher Season 3 reaches our screens, there’ll be much to keep fans occupied in the meantime. Prequel miniseries The Witcher: Blood Origin will arrive later this year, telling the story of the Conjunction Of The Spheres with Michelle Yeoh in the cast, while all kinds of other spin-offs are in the works too, from a second anime feature following Nightmare Of The Wolf, to a family-friendly animated show. Netflix really wants you to keep tossing your coins to their Witcher.
