Good news for fans of Netflix’s epic fantasy show – the streaming service has tossed several coins to its serialised adaptation of The Witcher, expanding the cast for the upcoming second series. When the show, centred on Henry Cavill’s Geralt Of Rivia, returns with a new batch of episodes, he’ll be joined by a set of new faces – and one will be particularly familiar to any Game Of Thrones fans.

Kristofer Hivju, he who played the fan-favourite, flame-haired Wildling warrior Tormund Giantsbane in HBO’s game-changing medieval fantasy show, has been officially confirmed to join The Witcher as Nivellen – a charismatic man from an artistocratic family who is also the host of a monstrous curse. The news comes as Season 2 officially begins production, confirmed to consist of eight new episodes. Also joining the cast will be Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Thue Fabienne Ross as Lydia, and Mecia Simson as Francesca.

“The reaction to season one of The Witcher set a high bar for adding new talent for the second season,” says show runner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. “Sophie Holland and her casting team have once again found the very best people to embody these characters, and in the hands of these accomplished directors, we’re excited to see these new stories come to life.”

The Witcher Season 2 is expected to arrive at some point in 2021 – sure to lodge ‘Toss A Coin To Your Witcher’ right back into your brain, just when you’d spent the best part of 18 months trying to shake it.
