Bad news for fans of the Willow series that finally debuted on Disney+ late last year after years in development. The show, which brought Warwick Davis' sorcerer back to screens 35 years after the original movie, has been cancelled by the streaming service.

According to Deadline, the show didn't meet the company's threshold in terms of buzz (viewership figures tend to be an arcane mystery at Disney+) and with the Mouse House looking to cut costs on streaming in search of profit, Willow appears to be a victim of that – it wasn't a cheap show to make and hasn't performed on the level of, say The Mandalorian.

Willow caught up with the title character years after the original movie and saw him drawn into a new quest to face a resurgent threat.
Alongside Davis, the show starred Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Amer Chadha-Patel and Tony Revolori.
