Walter Mosley's Ezekiel “Easy” Rawlins might be best known to audiences via his 1995 film adaptation Devil In A Blue Dress. Now Amblin Television and director Sylvain White are looking to turn the character from Mosley's books into a TV series.

The drama will be based on Mosley’s 15 novels and collection of short stories centered on the World War II army veteran turned hard-boiled private eye, and set in 1950s Los Angeles. The show will be a classic noir story, while also exploring racial inequalities of the time.

White, who directed movies including Stomp The Yard and The Losers, will be among the executive producers and oversee the pilot episode. Mosley, who is still writing the books (the most recent was published this month), is also a producer, especially given his experience working on FX series Snowfall.

Don't expect to see Denzel Washington in the lead role of Rawlins, but whoever takes on the role will have to live up to his Blue Dress performance.
