Back in 2020, Robert Downey Jr. gave an interview where he talked up the possibility of using the planned third Sherlock Holmes movie as the launching pad for new TV series and other projects based around the Baker Street detective. While we're still waiting for the movie, the shows are, according to Variety, in early development at HBO Max.

The details are almost nil for the two shows, though they would apparently follow entirely new characters or side-stories spun off from the still-unmade new Holmes movie.

They'd be set in the same world built out by 2009 Sherlock Holmes and 2011's Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows, which were both directed by Guy Ritchie. Dexter Fletcher remains (at least until we learn otherwise) attached to make the third movie, but it's yet to start shooting and the new shows hinge on it coming out.

It's just the latest attempt by HBO Max to pull characters from movies into TV series, with the likes of Peacemaker already proving successful and shows based on The Batman, Dune and It all at different stages.

Does this indicate that we'll finally see a new Holmes under construction this year? Well, we've held our collective breath this long...
