Excellent news for everyone who loves quality TV! Well, maybe not this guy. But he can go and suck on his sour grapes instead. For the rest of us, there's reason to be happy today as HBO has renewed True Detective for a fifth season, and has Night Country showrunner Issa López returning to oversee it again.
Night Country, which starred Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the story of troubled police officers investigating a confounding crime at a research station just outside a tiny, frozen Alaskan town as it plunges into weeks of darkness, has become the most watched season of the show and received plenty of critical praise to boot.
As for what the new season might cover, there's no word yet on whether it'll continue the story of Night Country or go the more familiar True Detective anthology route of a new setting and characters.
"From conception to release, Night Country has been the most beautiful collaboration and adventure of my entire creative life," says López. "HBO trusted my vision all the way, and the idea of bringing to life a new incarnation of True Detective with Casey, Francesca and the whole team is a dream come true. I can’t wait to go again." We can't wait either.
