We know that as Loki in the MCU, Tom Hiddleston has a history with snakes, not the least of which is that time he turned into one to surprise his brother. But for new Apple TV+ mystery drama The Essex Serpent, he'll play a man of the cloth troubled by rumours that a mythical serpentine creature is affecting the local townsfolk. See the trailer...

And here is your official synopsis: "A widow, a village vicar, and a mythical beast... are the rumors true? Set in Victorian England, The Essex Serpent follows London widow Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes) who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms an unlikely bond with the village vicar (Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature."

It's adapted from Sarah Perry's novel by Deep Water's Anna Symon, while BAFTA Award-nominee Clio Barnard brings some stunning imagery to the miniseries as director.

Frank Dillane, Clémence Poésy, Mike Jibson and Hayley Squires also feature in the series, which will kick off on Apple TV+ on 13 May with two episodes, before one episode arrives weekly until the finale on 10 June.
