Prepare those anachronistic needle-drops and get ready for more family bickering: The Umbrella Academy is officially coming back for Season 3. Months after Season 2 hit the streaming service, Netflix’s adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comic book series has now been given the thumbs-up to return for a fresh batch of episodes centred around the Hargreeves siblings, battling time-travelling assassins, impending apocalypses, and (occasionally) each other.
The cast – including the likes of Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan and Aidan Gallagher – is confirmed to return for 10 new episodes, with Steve Blackman once again back as showrunner. And, if the Season 2 finale is anything to go by, the show should be heading into even wilder territory this time around. After the last set of episodes relished in a period 1960s setting, it seems like the next season will – SPOILER WARNING – see the Academy settling back into 2019. Except, it’s not exactly the 2019 they left – with characters back from the dead, a different hero line-up, and many mysteries to be untangled.
With Season 2 receiving a better critical reception than the debut series, here’s hoping The Umbrella Academy can continue its improved streak. Season 3 is set to begin shooting in February, so expect them to drop in late 2021 (if you’re lucky), or maybe 2022.
