"That's it," as Chris Morris' The Day Today news anchor once observed, "it's war!" And indeed, from the looks of this final trailer, The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power is certainly barreling towards epic conflict for Season 2. The footage landed as we have just a couple of weeks to wait for the show to return to our screens. Check it out:

Season 2 of the series finds Middle-earth in the throes of discord, sown by Sauron (Charlie Vickers). It's via his foul deception and manipulation that more of the titular Rings of Power are crafted. But the forces of good are also coming together; unlikely alliances are forged amidst fire, and true friendships are tested.

Dangers no longer lurk in shadow, but slither their way into the light. Weighty decisions rest on the shoulders of the realms of Eregion, Khazad-dûm, Lindon, Númenor, and the lands in-between, as the safety and peace of these kingdoms hang in the balance.

And this new season promises the Siege of Eregion, a definitive battle in JRR Tolkien’s history of the Second Age of Middle-earth, from which not everyone makes it out alive. The banners are raised, and the devastating war against Sauron is just beginning…

If that's not enough Middle-earth action for you, Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis are joining forces to bring us another Lord Of The Rings film in The Hunt For Gollum, plus we have the arrival of animated equestrian epic The War Of The Rohirrim set to make its cinema debut later in the year.

The Rings Of Power, meanwhile, will return to our screens with the first three episodes of Season 2 on 29 August.
