If there's two things that are hot right now in the world of films and TV it's "eat the rich" stories and murder mysteries. The White Lotus, Saltburn, Only Murders In The Building, Bad Monkey, Blink Twice, Poker Face... the list goes on. Now imagine if you will a binge-ready, Netflix bound, eat the rich murder mystery, say one boasting Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, and Dakota Fanning amongst its all-star ensemble. Sounds good, right? That's where The Perfect Couple, the latest provocation from Susanne Bier (The Night Manager, The Undoing), comes in. Set amidst a wedding weekend gone awry, this one's got big Big Little Lies energy — and not just because Kidman's the lead. Check out the trailer below to see what we mean:
Set to 'Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You' and touting itself as "the most delicious, indulgent, shocking show on TV", everything about this new look at The Perfect Couple — whose plot revolves a body found on a beach during a destination wedding weekend — screams decadence and oozes intrigue. From forced family photos featuring Kidman's Greer Garrison Winbury and her mega wealthy brood, to the admission that the Paddington star's character forces all visitors to her Nantucket home to sign NDAs, to Dakota Fanning certifying Liev Schreiber's DILF status and an impromptu, Eve Hewson led dance number on the beach, there's plenty to chew on here. "I did not see that coming," one of the series' detectives exclaims at one point — and we reckon we'll be saying that once or twice ourselves before all's said and done.
Here's the show's full synopsis: "Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson) is about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket. Her disapproving future mother-in-law, famous novelist Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman), has spared no expense in planning what promises to be the premiere wedding of the season — until a body turns up on the beach. As secrets come to light, the stage is set for a real-life investigation that feels plucked from the pages of one of Greer’s novels. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect."
Billy Howie, Jack Reynor, White Lotus alum Meghann Fahy, and actual Isabelle Adjani are all also caught in the Winbury web of intrigue here, spun from Elin Hilderbrand's same-named novel. As for whodunit, whytheydunit, and howtheydunit, we'll find out when The Perfect Couple hits Netflix tomorrow. And before then, you can hear star Eve Hewson talking about the show on this week's Pilot TV podcast; now there's a real killer for you!
