When you cause enough of a scandal that it generates various podcasts, more than one TV series and kicks movies into development, you know you've done something both bad and memorable. Such is the case for Elizabeth Holmes and medical startup Theranos, which is also now the focus of drama series The Dropout starring Amanda Seyfried. See the trailer...
The Dropout chronicles Holmes as she drops out of Stanford University to found Theranos, her fraudulent Silicon Valley blood testing startup that was once hailed as revolutionary, but was soon revealed as a big old nonsense, leaving investors feeling cheated and patients wronged.
How badly did it turn out for Holmes and some of her colleagues? Last month, a federal jury in San Jose found Holmes guilty on four counts of fraud.
Naveen Andrews plays Holmes’ former business partner Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, who faces trial separately later this year. And the cast also includes William H. Macy (who looks like he's auditioning for a real-world Megamind movie), Laurie Metcalf, Elizabeth Marvel, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Stephen Fry, Michel Gill, Michael Ironside, Bill Irwin, Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Sam Waterston and Josh Pais.
The show will arrive with the initial three episodes on Hulu in the States on 3 March and Disney+ in the UK, with new episodes after that premiering weekly.
