One of the very best shows on Netflix is nearly back! That's right folks, Keri Russell's tenacious U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler is returning to our screens next month for another round of global political hijinks in The Diplomat Season 2. And after the quite literally explosive Season 1 climax, the slickly stylised first teaser for the show's second series confirms the fate of Kate's on-again, off-again husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) — and introduces a new adversary in the form of Allison Janney's American Vice President Grace Penn. Check it out below:

He's alive! Yup, after seemingly being blown to smithereens during the breathless climax of The Diplomat's first season finale, we finally have confirmation that Kate's hubby Hal survived the blast as we see him suited and booted here, arm in arm with his put-upon wife at some sort of gala. And awaiting the duo as dramatic strings kick in? Janney's blonde-bobbed VP, who doesn't have to say a single word to give off big villain vibes. Now, this teaser really is just a tease at only 33 seconds long, but alongside this new look at the show's second season, Netflix have given us some more details about what's in store for Kate Wyler next.

According to showrunner Debora Cahn, as Hal and Kate reel from the explosion that ripped through central London last series, "everything we thought we knew about the Wylers changes, as does everything they think they know about each other." What's more, not only is this season set to see Kate grappling with the discovery that British PM Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) was the man behind the aircraft carrier explosion in the first series' pilot, but also handling friction with Janney's VP, who thinks — not entirely inaccurately — that Kate is after her job. All in a day's work for our gal Kate though, eh?

Alongside Russell, Sewell, and Kinnear, also returning for more, er, diplomacy are David Gyasi's UK foreign secretary Austin Dennison, Ato Essandoh's deputy chief of mission Stuart Hayford, and Ali Ahn's CIA station chief Eidra Park. Will Kate and Hal be on again or off again by the time Season 2's final credits roll? Will the British Prime Minister finally be held to account? (In the show! IN THE SHOW!) Is Allison Janney bringing back The Rachel? We'll find out the answers to at least some of those questions when The Diplomat Season 2 hits Netflix on 31 October.
