It's not all that shocking that Apple would want to stay in business with Phil Lord and Chris Miller – their track record is close to rock solid, and their latest work, The Afterparty has been a buzzy success for the Apple TV+ streaming service. But given that it felt like a one-off story, we are surprised that the show will come back for a second season.
Wrapping up its first season on Friday (or, given Apple's release plan, late on Thursday), The Afterparty has been an ensemble murder mystery about a group celebrating their high school reunion whose party is pooped when one of their number — arrogant pop star Xavier, played by Dave Franco - is murdered at his fancy mansion.
Told from the viewpoints of various different characters. and via different genres, the show has been a constantly entertaining mystery, one that is scheduled to be solved this week.
While the cast of the current season includes Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer and Jamie Demetriou, so far only Tiffany Haddish's Detective Danner is confirmed to return.
