For a long time now, Star Wars fans have been waiting for a first proper look at Skeleton Crew – the incoming Disney+ series from Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. While those lucky enough to attend 2023’s Star Wars Celebration got an early peek at the series over a year ago, the main panel at Disney's D23 Expo unveiled the first official trailer – which has also arrived online for all to see. And as has been much-reported, the show looks set to bring the Amblin vibes of ‘80s favourites like The Goonies into the galaxy far, far away, sending a group of suburban space-kids to the far reaches where they’ll encounter nefarious pirates, and Jude Law’s mysterious Jedi figure. Take a look here:

It’s a promising tease for the show, which takes place in the Mandalorian-adjacent New Republic era. And we already know it’ll feature an appearance from space pirate Veb, who debuted in Mando Season 3. What exactly sends the four galactic youngsters into uncharted territory remains to be seen (“I think it’s a lost Jedi temple,” says one of the kids of their woodland discovery), as does exactly they end up – but what’s clear here is that this is a series packed with creatures, droids, and the pulpiest elements of the Star Wars galaxy.

Watts and Ford have lined up a hugely enticing group of filmmakers to direct Skeleton Crew – with episodes confirmed to be helmed by the Oscar-winning Daniels, David Lowery, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Chung, Thunderbolts*’ Jake Schreier, and Watts himself. We’ll find out what they’ve managed to create when Skeleton Crew starts streaming on Disney+ from 3 December.
