Our next trip to that galaxy far, far away is closer than you think folks! Two weeks on from the dramatic, Darth Plagueis revealing finale of Leslye Headland's High Republic set series The Acolyte, our eyes are already being turned towards Skeleton Crew, the next Disney+ Star Wars series heading our way. Hailing from Spider-Man: No Way Home helmsman Jon Watts and his Homecoming scribe Christopher Ford (and boasting episodes directed by The Daniels and David Lowery), the new show stars Jude Law as Jod Na Nawood, a quick-thinking Force-user whose path crosses with an adventuring group of children who get lost on their way back to their home planet. Today, the official Star Wars account on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) revealed that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is set to premiere on Disney+ on 3 December, and shared some exciting first-look images from the show. In the images above, we get our first proper look at Law's Jedi (?) Nawood as well as the show's young leads. Amongst the newcomers making the jump to lightspeed for Skeleton Crew are Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who play Wim, KB, Neel, and Fern respectively. And whilst the plot for Watts' post-Return Of The Jedi set, The Mandalorian-adjacent show — as well as details on the new kids on the intergalactic block's characters — remain firmly under wraps for now, these new pictures definitely convey the Amblin tone Ford described when Empire spoke to the screenwriter at Star Wars Celebration last year. The 'boys/girls/aliens on (speeder)bikes' vibes are strong with this one indeed — and we would already lay down our lives for Neel, the blue, trunk-nosed Ortolan in the pack. (Yes, the same species as alien pop megastar Max Rebo!)
Also glimpsed in these new Skeleton Crew shots is Nick Frost's droid SM-33, described in an exclusive People piece on the series as "a rusty old, cranky droid that sort of reluctantly helps the kids along the way." Interestingly, that same piece goes on to note that Hot Fuzz star Frost's new bot is the first mate of a mysterious ship our kid heroes come aboard. Hmm... We'll find out whose ship SM-33 is on, just what kind of a Jedi (or not-Jedi) Jod Na Nawood is, and whether or not our intrepid young adventurers make it home when Watts and Ford's cosmic coming-of-age series hits Disney+ on 3 December. In the meantime, where can we get ourselves a Neel? Plush, action figure, screen-accurate cosplay outfit — we'll take the lot!
