Given that his time at the helm of the USS Discovery on, well, Star Trek: Discovery led to Anson Mount's Captain Christopher Pike learning that his space adventures ultimately end with him horrifically injured and confined to a futuristic mobility device, we don't blame him for choosing to hang up his uniform and pursue life on Earth amongst wood cabins and horses. But because Star Trek: Strange New Worlds isn't a future spin on Mount's old show Hell On Wheels, he's lured back to the Enterprise for a new mission. Check out the latest teaser trailer...
Aiming to return to not only the classic Trek ship but also its roots in episodic TV, Strange New Worlds will play out a story each week (though you just know there will be some arching elements). Not much is revealed about that here; this trailer is more about big vistas and talk of alien contact as fairy tale vs. reality.
Joining Mount's Captain here are Number One (Rebecca Romijn) and Spock (Ethan Peck), as seen on Discovery, along with other established characters played by new actors: Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), Cadet Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and Dr. M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun). Three new characters will round out the cast – Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia), La’an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) and Hemmer, played by Bruce Horak, the first legally blind actor to play a central character on a Trek show.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds engages its warp drive for the first time in the States on 5 May via Paramount+. As for the UK, we're awaiting word on the streaming service's launch here, so it'll probably end up arriving a little later.
