Let the (squid) games begin! After getting our first peek at the second season of Netflix's wildly popular K-Drama Squid Game just last month, the streaming giant have used this week's Netflix Geeked Week event to tease fans further as to what's in store when Hwang Dong-hyuk's lacerating play-or-die satire returns to our screens. Overnight, a 'Special Teaser' for the upcoming Season 2 dropped online, with protagonist Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) back in his 456 tracksuit, pink soldiers left, right, and centre, and a certain Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) preparing to launch his latest set of deadly games. Check it out below:
Now sure, this is only another forty-odd second morsel of Squid Game-y goodness, but already that now-instantly-recognisable iconography and the prospect of Player 456 re-entering the game has the show's tentacles wrapped around us all over again. And in lieu of more plotty details being shared in this new teaser, here's the second season's official synopsis: “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.”
Among the _ink_redible cast readying a return for more The Hunger Games-meets-Takeshi's Castle hijinks in Season 2 alongside Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun are Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo, and they'll appear opposite newcomers including the likes of Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, and Park Sung-hoon. With the recent announcement that Squid Game is set to end with a third and final season sometime in 2025, there's little else to say just now except, "Do you want to play a game?" No wait, that's War Games, not Squid Game! D'oh!
