The Coronavirus pandemic has been so all-consuming, it’s easy to forget that in the weeks for the world went into lockdown, Bong Joon Ho won big at the Oscars. Parasite was, deservedly, a worldwide smash – and prompted film fans worldwide to check out Director Bong’s other genre-melding hits, among them the dystopian-sci-fi-satire-action-thriller Snowpiercer. Bong’s 2013 film adapted the French graphic novel, which finds the remnants of humanity living in a socially-stratified super-train hurtling across the frozen wasteland of what used to be planet Earth in a state of perpetual motion, and starred Chris Evans as the leader of a violent revolution.

Years later, the story has been adapted for the screen again, this time in a Netflix series with Bong as an executive producer, finding new stories in the numerous characters living in the train’s carriages. Among them are Daveed Diggs’ tail-end passenger Andre Layton, and Jennifer Connelly’s Melanie Cavill, who has the all-important train keys. Here’s a brand new pic of Connelly’s character, as seen in the upcoming new issue of Empire.

“[The show] is talking about limited resources and social injustices and hierarchies and power and wealth,” Connelly told Empire on set in Vancouver, Canada. “I thought that it was a really great platform to talk about some relevant issues in a way that is, I think, still entertaining and fun. It’s really exciting.”
