Striking a tricky balance between belly laughs and moments of real sadness, therapist comedy Shrinking — the brainchild of Ted Lasso alum Brett Goldstein and co-creator Bill Lawrence, as well as star Jason Segel — is one of Apple TV+'s real gems. And now Segel's grieving, rule averse psychotherapist Jimmy and his curmudgeonly colleague/mentor Paul (Harrison Ford) are back in Shrinking Season 2, looking to help their patients navigate love and loss as they try to do the same, to varying degrees of success, in their own lives. Check out the new trailer below:
There's clearly a lot going on in Shrinking's latest season. Jimmy's daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) is worrying about her dad's mental health; Jimmy and colleague Gaby's (Jessica Williams) workplace frisson is still in full effect, "sex boxers" and all; and Paul is continuing to reckon with his Parkinson's diagnosis as the consequences of his protégé's unorthodox methods play out, with patient Grace (Heidi Gardner) in the clink for murder. But if you're worried that Shrinking's about to go all comedy-but-it's-not-actually-a-comedy, The Bear style, then fear not. The undisputed highlight of this teaser is Ford — who's really found his funny bone on this show — uttering the immortal line, "You want me to pull my pants down and make my ass clap?" Greenlight Season 3 already, dammit!
Also returning for some more quite literally therapeutic TV this season are Christa Miller, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, and Wendie Malick. And they'll be joined by guest star Brett Goldstein, who steps out from behind the camera to appear as a significant figure from Jimmy's past. Therapy will be back in session when Shrinking's 12-episode second season hits Apple TV+ on 16 October, with a two-episode premiere followed by weekly drops thereafter. Just what the doctor ordered!
