ThoughPitch Perfect 3 seemed to wrap up the movie franchise, Universal clearly sees value in keeping the story – at least via an adjacent character – going, and has a prime landing space in its Peacock streaming service. The company has announced that Adam Devine will star in a show based on the movies.

Devine, of course, played smarmy vocalist Bumper Allen, who was a thorn in the Bellas' side in the first movie alongside his all-male a cappella group, The Treblemakers. In the second film, he was more of a supporting character and struck up an affair withRebel Wilson's Fat Amy. For the show, he moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin. So... channelling The Hoff, then. Seems right.

Megan Amram, a veteran of shows including The Good Place, Parks And Recreation, Silicon Valley and The Simpsons, is on board as main executive producer and showrunner. The series will also have Elizabeth Banks, who produced and appeared in all three films and directed the second, on board as a producer. It does seem a little weird to have the spin-off of a female-focused film franchise revolve entirely around a man, but with Amram aboard, we're more hopeful than we might be.
