Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Call if a bit of counter programming – for Star Wars fans across the galaxy, May the 4th brings all kinds of nerdy treats from the galaxy far, far away. But for Bridgerton fans, it’ll mean something else this year: the arrival of spin-off sister series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on Netflix. It’s a prequel show, telling the story of the younger Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel in the main show, and by India Amarteifio here) as an amuse-bouche for Bridgerton Season 3. Wait, what’s that? A spin-off show to keep fans going amid a gap between Seasons 2 and 3? Sounds like The Book Of Boba Fett of the Bridgerton world if you ask us. Watch the trailer here:

Bonnets! Betrothals! British accents! Sounds like Bridgerton alright – and coming from producer Shonda Rhimes, it looks to continue the refreshingly un-stuffy tone that made the original show such a hit (though, whether it returns to the raunch of Season 1 remains to be seen). The six-episode limited series will see the beginning of young Charlotte’s relationship with King George III, played here by Corey Mylchreest, with Arsema Thomas as the young Lady Danbury and Connie Jenkins-Greig as the young Violet Ledger.

Beyond Queen Charlotte, Netflix has confirmed that Bridgerton will be back for at least two more seasons – with the upcoming Season 3 set to disrupt the book order and adapt Julia Quinn’s fourth book in the series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. It’s expected to arrive either later this year, or perhaps in early 2024 – though if you want any more inside gossip on what’s to come, you’ll have to get it from Lady Whistledown.
