Order! Order! Apple TV+ has put in an order... for a second series of its critically acclaimed legal drama Presumed Innocent, the platform's most watched drama to date. As confirmed by the streaming giant themselves ahead of the first season's upcoming 24 July finale, David E. Kelley's (Anatomy Of A Scandal) show — based on author Scott Turow's bestselling book — will return for a new run run of episodes centring around a brand new case. J.J. Abrams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel Rusch Rich, Dustin Thomason, and Matthew Tinker are all set to return as executive producers alongside Kelley and Turow, though it remains to be seen whether Gyllenhaal, who also stars in the first series, will be back on screen too next time around.

Previously adapted as an Alan J. Pakula (All The President's Men) movie starring Harrison Ford back in 1990, Presumed Innocent follows Chicago chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich (Gyllenhaal), who finds himself the prime suspect in his colleague's (The Worst Person In The World's Renate Reinsve) brutal murder after their illicit affair is exposed. A twisting, turning crime thriller which skilfully sustains its did-he-or-didn't-he-do-it narrative throughout, the first season of Presumed Innocent boasts a stacked ensemble featuring the likes of Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Peter Sarsgard, and Noma Dumezweni opposite Gyllenhaal.

With the jury still out on whether Sabich is a calculating killer or simply just the world's worst husband as Season 1 barrels towards its climax, and an all-new case ahead for Season 2, whether any familiar faces will return for more Presumed Innocent is very much up in the air at the moment. Perhaps Kelley and co will take a more anthological approach and bring in another starry ensemble for further tales of secrets, lies, judicial subterfuge, and the search for justice? Only time will tell. But for now, there's two episodes left to go this series, and we have more Gyllenhaal-based goodness in the pipeline with the recently announced Road House remake sequel and upcoming bro-sis Bride of Frankenstein collab The Bride!. Our verdict? Bangers incoming, bangers everywhere!
